Welcome to Threads of India, where our brand focuses on celebrating the rich heritage of India by highlighting its people, planet, and culture. We invite you on a journey through the diverse and vibrant cities of India, each inspiring a unique collection that embodies the history, culture, and traditions of the region.
People
At the heart of our brand are the artisans who bring our collections to life. We believe in fair wages and providing a nurturing environment where they can thrive. Our artisans work in natural climates without air conditioning, embracing a slow-living lifestyle that fosters creativity and concentration. Each piece is a testament to their dedication and skill, passed down through generations.
Planet
Sustainability is a cornerstone of our ethos. We use plant-based and pigmented inks, vegetable dyes, and minimize electricity usage by drying fabrics outdoors. Our production process is designed to be zero-waste, cutting fabrics to exact measurements and repurposing any leftover material into items like bucket hats, sarongs, scrunchies, table mats, and tote bags. We also offer sample sales to ensure that nothing is discarded, honouring the effort of our artisans and the resources of our planet.
Culture
With each new collection, we invite you to travel with us through India. We document our visits to the cities, capturing the beauty of the landscapes, the flavours of the local cuisine, and the sounds of regional languages. We introduce you to the artisans, sharing their stories, their dedication, and the intricate processes behind their craft. This immersive experience offers a unique glimpse into the heart of Indian culture, far beyond the fabric. We aim to share the stories of these traditional crafts with a global audience, ensuring they are preserved and celebrated. We bring you the stories behind the textiles, showcasing how traditional techniques have evolved into contemporary fashion.
Jaipur Collection
Our inaugural collection is inspired by Jaipur, Rajasthan, featuring the exquisite sanganeri art and block printing. This traditional technique involves carving intricate designs onto wooden blocks, soaking them in oil, and then printing them with plant-based inks and vegetable dyes. The fabrics are dried naturally, reflecting the eco-friendly practices that our artisans cherish. Each piece in this collection tells a story of the city's royal history, cultural richness, and the artisanal techniques passed down through generations.
Experience the Craft
We invite you to join us in exploring the making of our garments. Witness the traditional methods that have been preserved over centuries, now adapted to create contemporary designs. Our garments are handmade with sustainable fabrics like linen, cotton, and voile, ensuring they are lightweight, soft, and comfortable. Each piece is unique, offering you an authentic connection to India's rich textile heritage.
Zero Waste and Ethical Production
We are committed to zero waste and ethical production. Our limited production runs and small batches ensure that our artisans are never overworked. The handmade nature of our garments makes them more expensive, reflecting the fair wages paid to our artisans and the high-quality, sustainable materials used. We believe that fashion should be human and personal, a philosophy echoed by Anna Wintour's words: "Creativity means that fashion cannot be a product; it has to be human and it has to be personal."
As we launch two collections a year, each inspired by a different Indian city, we invite you to discover the rich history and beautiful textiles of India. Celebrate with us the artisans who pour their hearts and souls into their craft, and embrace the slow, simple living that defines their way of life. Together, we can ensure that these timeless art forms continue to thrive and inspire future generations.
Thank you for joining us on this journey to Discover India with Me. Let's celebrate the beauty of Indian textiles and culture, and support the artisans who keep these traditions alive.
