At Threads of India, sustainability isn't just a buzzword; it's a core principle that guides everything we do. Our commitment to sustainable fashion is reflected in our approach to production, the treatment of our artisans, and our dedication to preserving traditional craft techniques.
No Mass Production
We believe in quality over quantity. Unlike mass-produced fashion that prioritizes speed and volume, our approach is rooted in the ethos of slow fashion. Each piece is thoughtfully designed and meticulously crafted, ensuring that every item we create is a unique work of art. By avoiding mass production, we reduce our environmental footprint and ensure that our products are made with the highest standards of craftsmanship.
Small Batch Production
We produce only 2-3 collections each year in small batches. We completely avoid overproduction, which leads to the overuse of environmental resources. Our slow making process honors the time-honored techniques passed down through generations. We work closely with artisans who pour their skill and passion into every piece, allowing the time needed to create truly exceptional products. This careful, deliberate approach not only results in higher quality items but also respects the natural pace of traditional handcrafting methods.
No Wastage
Waste is a significant issue in the fashion industry, but at Threads of India, we are committed to minimizing it. We utilize every scrap of fabric, turning potential waste into beautiful products. Our designs are planned meticulously to ensure minimal leftover material, and any remnants are repurposed into smaller items or used in creative ways. This zero-waste approach helps us conserve resources and reduce our environmental impact.
Local Sourcing
We have decided to source all our raw materials, dyers, and artisans within a 5 km radius of our production house. This minimizes resource wastage during the initial stages of production.
Ethical Production.
We are dedicated to producing our garments ethically. This means better working conditions, fair wages, no child labour, freely chosen employment, and respect for the environment.
Less Use of Electricity
In our production process, we consciously limit the use of electricity. Many of our techniques rely on manual labour and traditional methods that don't require power-hungry machinery. By focusing on handcrafting, we not only preserve the authenticity of our products but also reduce our carbon footprint. Our commitment to low-energy practices extends to every part of our operation, from production to packaging.
Fair Wages to Artisans
Our artisans are the heart and soul of Threads of India. We believe in treating them with the respect and dignity they deserve. By ensuring fair wages, we empower these skilled individuals to sustain their livelihoods and support their families. Our fairtrade practices ensure that every artisan receives compensation that reflects their talent and hard work. This not only fosters a positive working environment but also helps in preserving traditional crafts for future generations.
A Holistic Approach to Sustainable Fashion
Our holistic approach to sustainable fashion goes beyond the product. It's about creating a system that values people, planet, and culture. From using plant-based inks and vegetable dyes to employing sustainable practices and ensuring a natural working climate, every step of our process is designed to be kind to the earth and beneficial to our artisans.
At Threads of India, we are proud to craft fashion with a conscience. Our dedication to sustainability, slow fashion, and ethical practices ensures that every piece we create is not only beautiful but also made with respect for our world and its people. Join us on this journey towards a more sustainable and equitable fashion industry, one thread at a time.
